Senior Showcase & Formal Retrospective

Welcome to my Senior Showcase & Formal Retrospective, created especially for prospective employers.

Formal Retrospective

In my H-200 course, which I took in 2022, I saw myself as a timid student who wanted to be more confident in herself and push herself out of her comfort zone more often. While it was not long ago that I saw myself that way, I can assuredly say that I have grown as an individual and as a professional in many ways. I feel that I have become more sure of myself and more comfortable in my skin every day. I've developed a keen understanding of where I fit into a team, leveraging my strengths and appreciating the talents of others. Actively seeking out situations that push me beyond my comfort zone has been a catalyst for building confidence. I've grown more assured in my identity and skills. As I continue to cultivate my talents and mindset, I foresee a future where I am even more confident in embracing my true self and contributing to the world.

"I've developed a keen understanding of where I fit into a team, leveraging my strengths and appreciating the talents of others."

Through my college experiences, I have become a more adept leader, a sharper critical thinker, and a seasoned problem-solver. Serving as the Vice President of Women in Business, I honed my collaborative leadership skills, guiding the executive board to foster club growth and awareness. This experience underscores my commitment to women-centric issues and creating avenues for women's professional growth and networking. These skills will serve as a tremendous benefit for me as I enter into my career. Leadership can be demonstrated in any role and I can use this skill to take initiative in team projects where the group needs direction to succeed. Critical thinking and problem solving are especially beneficial within a corporate environment. Every situation is different, and I can combine my prior knowledge with situational context to think critically about any case. I can then use this information to solve problems in the workplace. These skills will positively affect my ability to produce solutions and drive success in any company.

I have also had the opportunity to lead academic projects, like my Honors I-Core project. I led my team to stay on track throughout the semester to complete several deliverables and a final presentation. This journey further polished my critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Practicing these skills has allowed me to recommend better solutions in the face of academic and professional challenges. Internships and part-time work allowed me to apply academic knowledge to real-world projects, preparing me for the diverse challenges of the business world.

"It's not just about the academic lessons; it's about developing a deep self-awareness."

Kelley Honors has been instrumental in my growth, challenging me to refine existing strengths, acquire new professional skills, and apply academic knowledge. It's not just about the academic lessons; it's about developing a deep self-awareness. I can confidently articulate my talents and believe in the value I bring to any professional setting. I especially believe that my hands-on professional experience was the most applicable and beneficial to me, as I have more confidence in my capabilities when embarking on my first full-time job after college. I think that I will be able to whole-heartedly dive into a role after college with confidence and self-awareness because of my academic lessons, hands-on experience, and mentorship throughout my Kelley Honors journey. The journey continues, and I am eager to apply these lessons and skills in the next chapter of my career.

I have been a member of Women in Business (WIB) since 2020. WIB is dedicated to advancing the success of women within the Kelley School of Business in Indianapolis. The board strives for all club activities to embody WIB's purpose while welcoming those who identify as women and consider themselves allies. I started by attending events and worked my way to VP of Outreach in 2022, and then to Vice President in 2023. The club had just been revitalized when I began college, and I had the opportunity to further develop and grow the club to where it is now.

Within both of my roles, I was in charge of corresponding with guests, university administration, and student organizations. I planned, coordinated, and implemented several events per month, including speaker events, panels, workshops, volunteer events, and member socials. Within my role as Vice President, I also gained more responsibility in leading a board of nine other individuals, in collaboration with the President and other Vice President, with direct supervision and support over the Assistant Vice Presidents and Directors. My time with WIB was an especially rewarding experience, filled with growth, camaraderie, and professional development. It was a privilege to be part of the rejuvenation and tremendous growth that Women in Business experienced within only four years. Now it is one of the most active clubs within the Kelley School of Business and I look forward to seeing the further growth that ensues after I graduate. I appreciate the lessons I learned about how to lead a group of people and how to work collaboratively to foster success.

Honors I-Core, completed in Fall 2022, allowed me to combine concepts from team dynamics, marketing, finance, and supply chain into a comprehensive feasibility analysis for an Indianapolis-based company. This experience taught me how to work with a team on a long-term project and how to combine several concepts to create a well-rounded recommendation. With a more well-rounded understanding of business practices, I can contribute to conversations with an accurate understanding earlier on in my career.

A pivotal component of my honors and college journey was my summer internship at Merchants Bank of Indiana in 2023. I would say that this experience was exceptionally beneficial for me because I learn best when I am able to contribute and experience concepts in a hands-on manner. Throughout several months, I applied my academic knowledge in a practical setting, gaining valuable insights into the intricacies of the banking industry. I appreciated the structure of the internship program, as it allowed me to learn about all the departments in the bank, refine my interviewing and networking skills, undergo professional development, and present my work to company executives. I wouldn't be the professional I am today without the invaluable internship experience and growth that Merchants facilitated.

During the Fall of 2023, I successfully completed an honors contract for my Advertising and IMC course, focusing on the in-depth analysis of Absolut Vodka's "Bottles in the Wild" campaign. This project delved into the campaign's economic impact on various stakeholders and its role within the communication process. I am grateful for this enriching opportunity, as it allowed me to gain a more cohesive understanding of the effects of a successful advertising campaign.
